Manufacturing Men’s Supplements for Prostate Support

For all the middle-aged men out there, GET YOUR PSA checked. The PSA test is a blood test that measures how much of a particular protein (prostate-specific antigen) is in your blood. It has been the standard for prostate cancer screening for 30 years.

When to get screened

While the general recommendation is to get screened starting at age 55, one may need PSA screening between the ages of 40 and 54 if a man:

  • Has at least one first-degree relative (like a father or brother) who has had prostate cancer
  • Has at least two extended family members who have had prostate cancer
  • Is African American, an ethnicity that has a higher risk of developing more aggressive cancers

Getting screened between the ages of 55 and 69 is most beneficial because this is the time frame during which:

  • Men are most likely to get cancer
  • Treatment benefits will likely outweigh any potential risk of treatment side effects

Why PSA matters

Detecting certain types of prostate cancer early can be critical. An elevated PSA score can signal the need for further testing to diagnose cancer that may otherwise spread quickly. When decoding the PSA score, doctors will consider the man’s age and the size of his prostate. For men in their 40s and 50s, a PSA greater than 2.5 ng/ml is considered abnormal. The average range is 0.6 to 0.7 ng/ml. For men in their 60s, a score greater than 4.0 ng/ml is considered abnormal. A PSA score may also be considered abnormal if it rises a certain amount in a single year. In that case, a doctor may recommend further testing.

Why is the prostate important?

The prostate is a gland that is part of the male reproductive system. It is about the size of a walnut, wraps around the upper region of the urethra, and is responsible for making most of the fluid in semen. As a result, enlargement or inflammation can negatively impact sexual function and urination.

What can go wrong?

Three main issues can occur in the prostate:

  1. Benign postatic hyperplasia (BPH): age-related enlargement of the prostate
  2. Prostatitis: inflammation or infection of the prostate
  3. Prostate cancer: the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men and the fourth leading cause of cancer deaths in men

That is why it’s so important that brands like yours offer high-quality dietary supplements for the prostate.

Which supplements to take for prostate health

There are many dietary supplements that have been shown to have positive affects on prostate health. They include but are not limited to:

  • Nettle root - commonly used in herbal medicine for pain and inflammation. Limited research has indicated that it may reduce urinary symptoms associated with BPH.
  • Beta-sitosterol, a particular phytosterol that has been shown to have a potential role in prostate health due to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant agencies.
  • Pygeum, an herbal extract that may help prostatitis and protect against the growth of cancerous cells.

The ingredients that go into your prostate supplement depend on the route you take. Should you take the custom route, then you may include any of the three ingredients listed above. In fact, you can conduct your own clinical trials and incorporate other ingredients as well. However, if you take the white label route, then our private label prostate tablets offers a group of beneficial vitamins, minerals, and extracts which could support the wellness of your older male customers.

Private label prostate support

Private labeling is a terrific avenue to explore if you are a very young company in the nutraceutical industry. Prostate health support is made possible by the help of Makers Nutrition’s ready-to-go tablets. This formula consists of Vitamin C, B6, Zinc, pumpkin seed powder, saw palmetto berry powder, and green tea leaf powder.

Vitamin C: may reduce the risk of an enlarged prostate

Vitamin B6: a deficiency in B6 can lead to a higher risk of breast or prostate cancer

Zinc: plays an important role in supporting prostate health. Prostate cells accumulate more zinc than do cells in any other human tissue. And studies have shown that the presence of zinc in the body helps suppress tumor growth especially in the prostate.

Pumpkin seed: may improve benign prostatic hyperplasia symptoms. Studies have found that pumpkin seed oil can block certain types of prostate growth.

Saw palmetto: may benefit urinary symptoms associated with an enlarged prostate.

Green tea: contains antioxidants that reduce the levels of dihydrotestosterone, or DHT, the hormone that promotes prostate growth.

Beware

While more research is underway, not all supplement ingredients marketed towards better prostate health are scientifically backed. There are in fact some that may instead harm the prostate. For example, some studies suggest that consuming large amounts of vitamin E, selenium, and zinc may increase the risk of prostate cancer. This is why it is strongly advised that you conduct your own research before manufacturing any type of prostate product.

Many prostate supplements comprise herbal blends which may interact with medications or affect certain medical conditions. Beware, and always include a Caution section on your label, which our graphic designers can easily place for you.

It is also strongly advised that you work with an FDA-registered, one that abides by the agency’s regulations. Why? Especially when dealing with the prostate, you want to make sure that the manufacturer values purity and safety as much as you, with a QC department that guarantees a whole slew of standard testing. Contamination of ingredients or using the wrong ones altogether can hurt consumers’ health. If your formula is adulterated, not only can your customers be harmed, but so can your reputation. And that is the last thing you want.

Once you have formulated a scientifically supported supplement, you will need an edge over competition. To get ahead, consider ordering non-GMO and gluten free ingredients. Those without artificial colors, preservatives, sweeteners could all work in your favor and sway consumers to buy your product over the next brand’s that has a very similar formula.
